Here is a recently discovered map of Maine's infamous Volvo Line. Some scholars believe that the line was initially established by the Vikings. Others believe it is more recent. We may never really know the answer.

Is Pemaquid in that line? I ask because I stopped at the beach for a bite from the snack bar. Menu choices were veggie burgers, organic hot dogs and (I kid you not) organic soda, served by tattooed girls of indeterminate sexuality (not that there's anything wrong with that.) Yellow mustard on that dog? Heck no - stone ground mustard.

The Vermontification of Maine continues...

This Volvo line business is interesting...though I must admit I hadn't heard of this before coming to this forum.

There is a thread in the archives that discusses it in depth. It's been around for quite a while.

Yes it is. Pretty much anything on the south side of Rt. 1 up to Damariscotta is in and the line heads NW to Augusta where it rejoins Rt. 95.

It's not been publicly discussed until recent years. Some folks fear that it will upset the CIA if we talk about in public, but we've been doing it for a while now and they don't seem to mind.

Me neither.
Growing up I remember hearing derisive comments about flatlanders, but never a thing about Volvos. Then again, I don't think anyone in my area back then had ever seen a Volvo. The first out of staters that turned up in British and Japanese cars were the talk of the town though.

I lived in semi rural western PA for 20 years before moving to ME 10 years ago.
I had never even seen a Volvo til I moved here. I thought it was some kind of New England thing, but I see I live on the wrong side of the Volvo line.
Do Volvos breed in MA?
