I had bear steak once. It wasn't bad, very rich. I was told that the other cuts are like pork. I choose not to hunt bear cuz I figure I wouldn't want to eat it all. What will you do with the skin? Wall hanging? Rug?

I worked with a native, and in the fall he would take off after the work day shoot a bear, cut, it up and dry it into bear jerky show up for work then hand out to the elders in the tribe who had income problems putting food on the table. All of this in a 36 hour period and not miss a stitch of work. He would give us a little too, it,s the only way I have Had bear and I liked it.

I guess during the regular deer firearms season you can still take a deer and a bear if you can. Not much for bears in York county,. Those that are here I'd just as soon leave them be.

You have to have to buy an addition to your regular license now. Steve was invited to hunt for the ear unexpectedly and had to find a place to get the tag. $27!!!

This is incorrect. I misread the law. During the regular deer season you do not need a separate bear tag, it's included in your license. He found this out when he stopped to buy the tag.

A lot of not from away folks probably wonder too! I do eat bear but we don't know about Steve and Taylor yet. Our other daughter is a vegetarian. Steve and Taylor have never tried it. This is the first bear Steve's shot. There were stories of stinky, horrible tasting bears but they were back in the old dump days when bears did eat and practically live in our dumps. I don't care for meat from an older bear (nor do I care for meat from most older animals) but a young animal is tender and mild.
I don't know that K would eat it either, but I have had bear (in NC no less, as part of a feed at the museum featuring game and seafood) and liked it.
