I'm a Notary Public and never charged anybody for any type of Notary service. DH and I were married by a JP on Popham Beach, we gave her a donation of $50.

Yes, that's a correction. I didn't 'pay' her $75. I donated $75. I was told (by God knows who) that was the 'normal' going rate. She did have to walk about a quarter mile into the woods to the top of a hill overlooking a pond. I however, should have kept walking on the trail!!!! lol

I was a JP 5 years ago.....most of the weddings I did were for friends and family and it was a gift....I didnt charge.... My services were very personalized and entailed meeting with the couple to discuss their plans....selecting readings...and printing out the service on fancy copy paper and putting it in a folder..and at times travel. Probably the JP should make more than the charge for the cake or the flowers.
