hi there, forgive our sarcasm,,,,but affordable and coastline dont usually go together!!

the southern maine coast is the most expensive in the state... tho it is a buyers market,,,,
depending on what you are looking for and your price range,,,

Affordable is a personal question... it can mean different things to different people. That will affect your 'nearest'.

I live 80 miles from Boston down on Cape Cod. Many people don't think of this as affordable, but there's plenty of people here.

Any coastal town near Boston is going to be expensive. Both in real estate and in taxes, the recurring nightmare. But if you aren't too worried about a market where a trailer on a 60' x 100' lot goes for $170,000 then try Kittery, York, Wells, places like that. Even up to Portland (About 1 hour away). Otherwise get a map and hit the realty websites in the area. Just go visit before you get too serious. Scope the places out well. I've been in back Maine a while and seen a lot of folks buy in the summer and leave at the priospect of witering over. Eastport has lost a few teachers and some city officials right around Christmas time.
