In Eastport there's Fort Sullivan, nothing like a castle - just a crumbling bit of stone ruins of the old powder house from the War of 1812. It's often overlooked and sits behind the high school, but I always thought it was pretty neat.

If you have a DeLorme Gazetteer there is a page near the front that list several forts, and gives a bit of information on each one. The two we go back to yearly are Fort Knox--great things happening there! and Fort William Henry. There isn't a lot left at WH, but the view is fabulous, and so are the guides!

Yup, St Margaret's Episcopal Church.
I used to attend Sunday services there when we lived in Maine- such a lovely old building with a great organ and great acoustics. I remember Mark Stimson was a member( nice man) - is he still alive?

Yes he is, he sold his company about 8 years back and I work for the company that merged with it. His son in law works with me and specializes in REO (bank owned properties) and will most likely be the number one agent in the state for unit sales for 2009.

More about historic places in Maine, please! Especially in Washington County. History is one of my hobbies and I'm looking forward to all the exploring I'll get to do.
