When my kids were growing up we started a tradition in our family. When the kids woke up they brought their stockings and ours into Mom and Dad's bed. We all sat around pulling our treasures out of our Christmas stockings. Then we made breakfast, bacon, eggs, homefries, sausage, toast and cinnamon rolls. After eating everyone had to help clean up. While clean up was going on I would always get a ham cooking in the slow cooker for later in the day. By the time the kitchen was cleaned up and the coffee was fresh and the ham was cooking the kids were so excited they were ready to burst at the seams. After everything was cleaned up and only after everything was cleaned up we would all go to the tree and open one gift at a time. I could stretch Christmas out until noon time. I figure it took me hours and hours to shop and wrap and bake, Christmas morning was not going to be over in 15 min. My kids never complained even when they were older. Tonight I talked with my daughter and she was telling me how she will let the kids have their stockings but no tree until after breakfast. She said she always loved the excitement and anticipation. It felt nice to know she was carrying on the tradition we started years ago with her. Merry Christmas everyone!

Then, OK, but JUST ONE!! Then, after we all eat, we open the rest of the gifts.

I must be the slacker here. We just ate toasted bagels and a fast fruit salad (mostly canned fruit). We go a little more hearty for New Years Day, though.

Candy, candy and more candy (the kids of course!) Then homemade biscuits and gravy, king syrup and butter for the biscuits too. Sausage patties, sausage links and country ham (we are southern ya' know) and really good strong coffee! (Santa business makes you really tired )
