There is a closed fire tower at the summit of Beech Mountain Trail in Acadia. Talk about a view!

I think that it would be neat to have a fire tower on my place. Do an annual inspection and replace one structural component no big deal, if you fix one thing each year, and item like that should last centuries.

You would get great TV / cellphone / shortwave reception up there. It would be a great place to hang some webcams. Maybe a couple small windmills.

I could have fun.

This fire tower used to be open and the view was great. I wander when they closed it?

There used to be a fire tower upon Frye Mountain in Thorndike as well. We used to ride up there on our ATV's and get up in the tower to look out. That was probably 10 to 15 years ago though, I haven't been up there in a loooooooong time so I'm not sure the tower up there is even there any more. Even if it is there, I'm sure it's no longer safe.

Almanac tower in or near Lakeville Plantation. It terrified me but the urge to see the view was always stronger than my fear when I was a kid.

It's closed in that it's no longer in operation...you can still go up and catch the view!

Having only driven between Calais and Bangor twice, I'm not sure of this, but I seem to recall a fire tower alongside the road at a high point. It was in pretty bad shape, too bad for climbing to see the view. You said Hwy, 9, right, RHB?

Casper, when you head to Bangor up th Airline; once you crest the biggest hill in the world on the right is the fire tower RHB is talking about. You got the right one; delapitated and about to fall down.

On a side note...how do you edit a post? I wanted to correct a spelling/typing error and can't seem to find the right set of buttons.
Ahh don't worry about that Bonnie, my spelling error will hide any you or anyone else has with out worry.

If anybody would like to buy a fire tower let me know. I figure it would be the best place in the whole world for a hot tub.
