I just finished watching Shawshank for about the 20th time and now I really want to move to Maine. Yes, I know it wasn't filmed in Maine but it's a great movie. Guess I need to finish the "projects" on my current house and work some more on that savings for land and/or a down payment.

We used to see Steve and Tabatha come into Pat's for pizza around 10 PM. Steve would say, "Has IT come out from under the loading dock again?"

Pat would yell, "Don't you start scaring the customers again!"

That was before Steve got hit by the car down in Lovell. He doesn't get out as much any more.

I understand what you are saying Jeremy. I was working for the railroad out west and had been gone from Maine (and my wife) for 5 months straight when they played Shawshank, Message in a Bottle and another Maine movie all in the same week. I was so damn homesick it was sad. So yes I feel for you...

I wanna know what the joke is about what's under the dock. And, no, I never saw Shawshank. Just not my kind of movie and I never saw the appeal in Tim Robbins. But I love Maine!

I couldn't agree more! We're actually thinking and planning now for a possible move in four years.

1. We still need to get out there a few times for a visit and see if we would really like it.
2. Have to finish the projects on my current house.
3. Would need to find a house to rent while looking at land and building a new house, or find the perfect place already built and for sale. (For my wife this means some kind of water on the property like a lake, pond, or river)

I'm fortunate to have a solid job where I can either work from home with internet access or have access to an airport and fly to client sites. I'm thinking the Portland area, as far north as Freeport or the equivalent distance West or South is where I should be.

lol - I just noticed in your post where you mentioned you would be willing to locate as far north as Freeport. Freeport is all of 20 minutes drive from Portland. If you are looking for lakes, west of Portland beyond the Windham area has that. I believe the land on Sebago Lake is very expensive as is all of ocean front property, with the possible exception of Washington County.
