NO REGRETS!!

It is so amazingly beautiful here. My kids are spending more time outside, more time in nature, more time with us.
We have explored all sorts of places and sent tons of beautiful pictures home to friends and family.
People here are very friendly and kind.

The bright blues, the deep greens, the fresh air.
This was a great decision for our family. My kids every day tell me how much they love their new home. My husband does too.

We chose Freeport, and although I'm afraid of hitting someone in the village, LOL, I like that we are close enough to Portland and southern Maine to make an easy trip there, likewise we are close to the midcoast too. It's just a good in between location.

I can't wait to see this place in the fall!!

Oh, for families thinking of moving here with kids...
Raising Maine magazine is a great resource...
Popham Beach is an amazing beach for families with kids. My favorite place so far!
And Jokers in Portland is a great Chuck E Cheese alternative that we will make a lot of use out of in winter! The playground area was huge!
And the manager there was extremely kind to my kids when he found out we were new residents and it was my son's birthday. "Wow, look at that! You BOTH got a 1000 tickets!" (And this was after he handed my husband a heaping handfull of free tokens).

Anyway, just wanted to give a report on our new home state! We are happy campers!!

Welcome to Freeport, I live in Freeport too! It is a unique place with a blend of the new and touch of the old. We certainly don't have to go far to find the best of everything retail has to offer yet Casco Bay is close and as you mentioned Popham, Portland and also the Lewiston/Auburn area. In fact I think the Yarmouth /Freeport/Pownal /Durham area is the best area in Maine for it's amenities, proximity to goods and services, excellent schools, fairly reasonable real estate all while maintaining a rural flavor and access to the beautiful coast. We enjoy a good school system, very low crime rate, good municipal services, all the benefits of coastal weather, and an upscale lifestyle that can still tolerate a deer hunter in the back yard. We have "The Mix"....and hopefully it will stay this way for a while!

I would like to go but it's closer to New York City than it is to Eastport from here.

Welcome neighbor...we just moved to Brunswick.

I have to agree with you, Popham beach is great.

There is a family fun center in Cooks Corner....we have not been....wondering if it is like a Chuck E Cheese.???

Went to Freeport last week, I have not been there in 17 years. Wow, it has changed a lot. We just had lunch and window shopped until it was time for ice cream. Ben and Jerry's is delicious

We have been driving/exploring after dinner most nights. We recently visited Cundy's harbor and Bailey's island. Both beautiful and we have a list of new resaurants to try. There is a gift shop in Cundy's that we found several great Christmas gifts for our friends. And live lobster....cheap!

Have fun exploring!!!!

Welcome, neighbor! We're up the road in Brunswick.

The traffic in Freeport will improve after September. Right now is the height of the tourist season, so you're seeing the traffic at its worst.

Popham is great. It's my favorite beach in the area.

My wife prefers Reid State Park out by Georgetown. If you have really small kids, Reid is probably better because they have a "kiddie beach" down by one of the tidepools, and the surf isn't nearly as strong as Popham.

Since you're in Freeport, be sure to check out Wolfe's Neck State Park sometime. No real sandy beach area, but you can get down to the water, it's a lovely hike, and if you time it right, you can see the nesting ospreys.

And yes, you will love autumn. It's the best time of the year here.
