well next week i have: maine state prison exam, us post office exam, and ibew apprenticeship interview, hopefully one of them pans out.

You may also want to check with the Federal Building if you are looking for security work. They like ex-military. They will also typically pay better than Securitas.

Since you have a degree, you must have more than 90 college credits. With those, you can work as an Ed. Tech III in a school system in Maine. Contact the Maine teacher certification office for a form to get your Ed. Tech. certification. (google them and print the form and check out pertinent info) You will also have to be fingerprinted. You can register for that online. The pay range is approx. $12-$17 per hour..........Maybe that's not enough $ for you...? Go see prospective employers and talk to them. You must be good at something. Sorry if I missed it, but where are you located? ok so I didn't read all the posts--I see it now--Lisbon.

If I can ever talk my DH in to going up prior to retirement, this is the route one or both of us may take.

Semper Fi! Work is tough everywhere that is for sure. Being a former Jarhead, you could try to apply for jobs like the post office, any govt type paying job, you would have some preference over other candidates I believe. Try some of the telco companiies, the independant ones. Maybe law enforcement would be looking for a former military type like the State Police.

You may not initially be able to get everything you want, like not travelling or a huge starting rate but something is better than nothing and you can always change jobs at a later date when and if things get better.

It isn't going to be easy because hiring isn't robust. Keep at it and I hope something turns up for you.

i am willing to put up with less than optimal employment, if i can pay my bills and ot be further in debt. so many "potential" jobs either pay too little or are too far way to justify them.

Jobs are tough everywhere. Border partrol is hiring as well as customs. Both federal jobs. If you are looking for a $20 p/h job without skill in Maine......Best of luck. I am in northern Maine with 2 mills closed and a community with 65% unemployment, so any lob open doesn't stay open long. Again good luck and thank you for your service.

As soon as you get done the training, your first duty will be on the Mexican border.

I have a friend with 18 years as a county sheriff who wanted a border job and that's what they told him. He immediately rescinded.
