If you are considering the Bangor area, we have Eastern Maine Medical
Center - also private Drs here of all specialties. Are you looking for a retirement complex or a single home? I understand that Dirigo Pines in Orono is quite lovely if you are looking for a complex with other Srs. also Avalon Village in Hamden. Both of these are only a couple miles from Bangor. Some retirees prefer to be on the coast and I believe Camden has Sr. communities.

Thanks for the info/. I am not well to do, and not ready to go into a retirement home per se, just looking to move to a place where Old Folks have a decent place to live if they can't afford pricey "assisted living." Where I am, you can pay 3 to 6 grand a month, after giving over your house, to be in assisted living. The next move will be my last, so I want to plan carefully

Maine is the oldest state. We took over from Florida about three years ago. You will find many contemporaries with many skills. They have every income level from basic subsistence to significant prosperity. Often they are neighbors.

When or if the time comes, there are alternatives to nursing homes or assisted living in an institution. Maine has an excellent home health care system. We also have job opportunities in that system.
