Particularly Pembroke. I am not interested in finding work. Just a vacation spot. If for some fluke, I moved permanently, would continue bookselling cause I be too lazy to work Bookselling is play to me...

Pembroke seems to have freshwater and also seems close to the ocean. Both of which would make me very happy.

This lurking on various real estate sites, and on this board has got me to do some very serious thinking. Next to figure out how to make this come true.

The Pembroke, Perry, Eastport area is very nice indeed. Pembroke has some wonderful old houses and the Reversing Falls are there. Perry also has salt water on one side of Route 1 and fresh water (Boyden Lake) on the other side.

Is the Pennamaquan River a clear and clean river? Are there operating paper mills or industrial plants nearby?

I plan on visiting, just trying to do some homework ahead of time to make things easier. Famous last words, I know!

One thing for sure is that you shouldn't have a problem finding a house in the area. We looked at a house in Pembroke that would have been a wonderful fixer-upper. Great price, large lot. It's not hard to find a place near the water, but waterfront property is expensive. Just be careful what you buy. What seems like a bargain may be a money pit. Folks told us, windows and roof. Make sure the windows have been replaced and that the roof is in good condition. We used NMLM as our realtor and he checked out our house for use before we bought, so we were fairly certain that it was in as good a condition as it seemed. I don't think you could go wrong, no matter where you opt to live in Washington County.

Default Pembroke

Pembroke is WONDERFUL. It is a small town with water views, good places to walk, and a great place to live. Plus, housing prices are pretty good.

Pembroke is a good spot. Plenty of elbow room. The Pennamaquon River is clean and nice. Comes off the lake of the same name. Nice place to go paddling. No paper mills or big industry around here (but I'll be nice.). Nice hiking down at Reversing Falls or go into Eastport and Shackford Head.

Check out Leighton Point Road. It is gorgeous out there. There were houses and land for sale there when I googled it just now.
