Hi! We will be moving to Maine summer 2010. My husband will be working at the shipyard in Bath. I am trying to figure out where we should live. We know there is housing on NAS Brunswick but are unsure what will happen to it once the base is closed for good soon. We have 3 kids...5, 4, and 2 so good schools are important. We also have an English Mastiff so a pet friendly area is important too. We are not sure if we want to buy and take the chance of it not selling in 3 years after our tour is over. Rentals are hard to find and I really don't know where to look. I would prefer to not live in a small, small town unless it has a Target Any help or recommendations on places would be great! Thanks for reading!

Use the base housing while you find a place of your own. then move. It's easier to find something, where you may wish to live, once you are here.
Welcome to Maine. Bath does good work.

Bath is very Navy friendly. It should be easy to find a rental with NAS Brunswick closing down. A whole lot of Navy people love it so much they retire in Maine.

Default The local newspaper link

The Times Record > Classifieds > Rentals

The closest Target is in the town of Topsham, approx 9 miles away.

Best of luck to you.

I agree with the idea of renting until you can familiarize yourself with the area. Brunswick schools are good. and you would be within easy driving distance of most everything you'd want, including the Target in Topsham.

I have a good friend who has two English Mastiffs and lives in West Bath. Once you get here, I can put you in touch with her if you would like. It would be hard to find a more pet-friendly place than Maine.

Rentex is a rental agency in the Bath/Brunswick area that offers pet-friendly rentals. We worked with them when we thought we were moving to that area and they were very helpful. Good luck!

I had heard this somewhere.

Maine must be a truly wonderful place for Navy people to retire here.

I love the Bath-Brunswick area -- My favorite spot there is Popham Beach. You will also have to check out Freeport for outlet shopping. Freeport is the home of the flagship store of L L Bean. I think you will love the mid-coast area if you are willing to accept more winter than you probably are used to.
