There is one mountain in Hawaii (don't remember name) that has snow on it. I think the statement should be that it is the first time there has been snow in some manner in all 50 states at the same time.

Taken directly from the link I put up last night:

Weather geeks turned their eyes to Hawaii. In that tropical paradise, where a ski club strangely exists, observers were looking closely at the islands' mountain peaks to see if they could find a trace of white to make it a rare 50-for-50 states with snow. But there was no snow in sight.

Hawaii's 13,800-foot Mauna Kea volcano, which often gets snow much of the year at its higher elevations, is the most likely place in the 50th state to have snow, but there "is nothing right now," said research meteorologist Tiziana Cherubini at the Mauna Kea Weather Center. It has been a few weeks since there has been snow in the mountains, and none is in the forecast, ruining a perfect 50-for-50, she said.

Mercifully, we had flurries today. The mid southern UP has been slighted in this el nino winter. Worst is there is a well nearby that has gone dry. (the lake has gone down 6+ ft in the last few years.) We are doing our part w/ a little les than a foot on the ground.

I thought that "Joe Bastardi" was another slur on Gov. Baldacci's name. I had to Google it. Boy, am I embarrassed.

Default Bastardi is for real!

YEAH..... Bastardi is a real person, who actually lives in State College, PA. He was a competitive wrestler in college, and is still a body builder. I'm sure no one comments on his name in a negative way to his face!

But he's also one of the best long range forecasters in the business. Staying abreast of his forecasts is a delight in knowing what's about to happen weeks and months in advance. He's quite exceptional. I think weather guesser is a misnomer. He has all the charts of the Pacific ocean and the sun and all the data of past storms at his finger tips. There is very little guessing in Joe's forecasts.

I'm not too big on some of the Written Work in Maine either, but like the weather, "Sometimes ITS THE ONLY WEATHER YOU'VE GOT, so you have to try to enjoy it."

I've no confusion about the direction the the wind blows. It blows from the North. At least in PA, this will be the 7th time.

Luckily on the coast of Maine, its not quite as cold. And in Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park, the weather is just delightful. But, unfortunately, many of the people on this forum choose to stay in the coldest areas. They should enjoy some of the coastal warmth too, and not just in the summer.

I hope new comers in Maine choose coastal Maine; there are lots of good writers, musicians, and other artists there.

Z
