This BDN article and photo tells the story of why one needs to watch for moose at this time of year. The stride of the moose tells me he has bolted up from the ditch in a flash. I've seen this same thing many times. The moose is down in the ditch, basically out of sight, then boom...thinks safety is on the other side of the road and bolts in that direction. This is only a yearling...think what Daddy or Mommy moose would look like!! Also think what warning you would have a night...no wonder multiple people are killed in moose/car accidents each year. The legs are so long, the hood of the car just folds the moose over so the body hits the roof and windshield. Reason enough to slow down this time of year in moose country me thinks.

Good article. Moose seem to appear from no where most of the time. You have to keep a very watchfull eye out.

Nothing gets a tourist madder than a moose hood ornament stretched out over the hood an front seat of his Jag.
