I was offered a good job in MD but unfortunately it's in rockville and the only places I'll be able to afford to rent are an hour away. I've looked in Fredrick but they were still out of my price range. Hagerstown seemed like the only place I can afford. I google mapped it but and it showed it's an hour away. How bad is the traffic? Will taking the metro to the MARC then to rockville be better option?

From Hagerstown it is drive to the MARC or drive all the way to Rokville. Metro doesn't go that far. The drive on 70 and 270 will be awful, especially on 270.

Yep - 270 will be a nightmare. Are you single? Is it possible you could share a place closer in?

Rockville's not that bad a commute. Not everyday is a "nightmare" on 270, but there certainly some bad days. I don't know, I'd say a good day would be an hour, a bad one an hour and a half one way. You could look into Martinsburg WV and take the MARC train down (though I am not sure if it stops in Rockville).

I guess the question I have is what is considered not affordable? How much were you trying to pay a month? There is the car but in reality you won't be happy driving 270 everyday. It takes an hour without traffic, it will proably take another 45mins to an hour to get home. Of course you have the MARC, but hey, I'm the type that would rather live close to my job.
