I am appalled that this is even an issue. They are here ILLEGALLY! As someone who went through the LONG process of legally becoming a naturalized citizen, I am offended that those who are here against the law are getting a financial benefit out of it!

This is too ridiculous to even be on the ballot. Let the illegals here receive exactly what an American would receive if he were illegal in another country.

I imagine it wouldn't be gov't aid, healthcare, and an education!

But no, we just let the vocal dolts in this country keep giving away what is ours to those who don't work for these benefits. We can't even afford to take care of our own, but our countrymen sure try to give even more away in the interests of being 'fair'.

This.

When you go to another country you don't get free education, healthcare, and all sorts of subsidies --- if you aren't there legally you get nothing in most cases!

The thing is if they get education what are they going to do with it? For the investment of the US Taxpayer (who will fund this through taxes) what is the benefit to society? When they finish school will they get a job and become a productive citizen contributing to the good of all by paying taxes and becoming part of the community and such?

Right.....yeah...they can't get a job "legally" and they can't stand out too much in the community or someone will notice them. There was an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education about an illegal guy who went all the way through his Ph.D. and now what does he do with it here?

Considering the state our schools are in across the board and the severe budget cuts facing many states this is completely idiotic! I live in San Diego and my daughter goes to school with kids who live in Tijuana but use a relatives address here to register. Nice to know I'm paying for a citizen of another country to get his/her education here...especially when there is a budget crisis and we cannot even afford to pay for the legal kids!

For me I feel like they should just shut the border down completely, legalize (one time deal) everyone who is already here and not a criminal, and then make them pay taxes and such just like everyone else. If they want it they earn it - no free rides. The government didn't give me a free ride!

No money right now in the budget for doing people favors. What I see is there not being enough money to meet current spending obligations without raising taxes and fees nearly every year. The state spends way too much as it is, even a "goodwill gesture" like this takes more out of the pocket of everyone else. I think it is very bad timing for a law like this, regardless of what you think about illegal immigration.

At the very least, the above post is a good argument to correctly educate the people we already have here.

And we're American. We don't "gotta share the wealth."
America is about having a dream, working hard, and grabbing your dream by the collar.
Not about putting your hand out, or being obligated to share what you have.

(That being said, when there are fewer taxes and gov't handouts,
I believe those who have a lot are more likely to give what they can, to the charities they choose.
But having the gov't tell us what to do with a large chunk of earned wealth? You're in the wrong country.
--Well, you were, anyway. Before the neosocialists stepped in.)

BUT if we are going to go all gov't-sanctioned charity, it should AT LEAST be in favor of our own citizens.
How illegals were ever even CONSIDERED as deserving of anything here (aside from deportation) is beyond me.
