Can somebody please explain how Section 8 housing works..... (Baltimore, Frederick: apartment complexes, rental)

and how peaceful apartment complexes in rural areas of Maryland can become overwhelmed with thugs from PG County, Baltimore City, and DC almost overnight? With people moving in at a steady pace daily?

Quick and dirty:

A person/family at or below a certain percentage of the poverty rate will be qualified for Section 8 (which many landlords like because of the guaranteed payment from the government) and finds a qualified residence. They then pay a certain percentage of the market rent (say 20%) with the government picking up the rest. If their income goes up their rent share is supposed to.


Part 2:

The housing authorities of those jurisdictions (especially Montgomery County) recently have made a conscious decision to move those families out to the outlying areas using the rationale that housing costs are cheaper away from the Metro areas. DC shuffled their folks off to PG as areas of the City were urban renewalled in the 70's and 80's and gentrified in the 90's. Same with Baltimore City.

Calvert and Charles are also seeing it, but to a lesser extent than Frederick County.

Is Frederick County getting a lot of it?

When I was recently driving through Frederick City...when I got to the what I thought were the coolest looking downtown urban areas...with all the density...it also seemed to have that 'element' to it. Not 'through and through' by any means....but could definitely see that element. Small groups of people hanging out in front of liquor stores in the middle of the day, with seeming no intention of going anywhere else at all, etc. Didn't see it everywhere, but saw it sevaral times in the middle of the day going past a few liquor stores anyways.

Also, don't forget that Western MD has suffered a but more from the recession than the close in Counties.

What's funny is that they're allowed to live the same, sometimes better, quality of life as decent hard-working folks...for free. Oh, and you know what's worse than free? The fact that YOU have to pay for it. Loud Music, Crime, Degeneracy, Littering, Loitering...all cause property values to go down making it harder for current residents to leave while increasing opportunity for more "trouble" to move in. It also causes property values elsewhere to increase, making it harder for decent people to not live around the diversity.

You know what's worse than that? The fact that they'll ruin not only where they live (and by extension you) but areas around them as well. Diversity has ruined America and the West.

Concur on all points.

They have no vested interest in the community in which they live so they just consume it like locusts and when they have completely destroyed the community, they move on to more fertile grounds.
