Hello,

I am new to the Eastern Shore (Salisbury specifically). A few questions:

1) Where is a decent place to get my car inspected? I have heard the horror stories, and I have not found any threads specific to Wicomico county. I'm willing to drive a little bit if it means an honest inspection/passing.

2) I received my car as a gift when transferring the title from another state before moving here, so I did not pay for it. Will I have to pay the %6 based on $640 since my sale price is zero?

2) Are emissions inspections required in all MD counties?

Thank you for your help, as tempting as it is to try to find a way out of registering my car in Maryland, I want to do things the right way.

If you're a non-resident student you don't have to switch registrations to MD as long as you maintain your residence in you home state.

Yes. A car gifted from out of state has to have the excise tax of 6% paid. If the car is old enough it's a flat fee, I think $100. It will have to go through the MD safety inspection which is more worrisome

than this one. I believe the Shore Counties are exempt from the air pollution test.

Enjoy yourself over there.

Messicks Auto Center on South Salisbury Blvd. next to Wawa is a great place to get your car inspected as they do not repair vehicles so therefore have no interest in being dishonest with you because there is nothing in it for them. I went there and was suprised at how easy it really was.
