I've thoroughly studied the Maryland vehicle admin site. Step one is clearly get your driver's license. Do they make you surrender your out of state license or do they alter it (hole punch or clipping) and let you keep it? PA punched my last ouf of state license when I lived there, and I think its kinda neat to be able to keep them as souvenirs. (and its nice to not just give up something like that, even if it is to a dmv) I would even be willing to travel to another dmv near Baltimore if I got to keep my outta stater, not sure if thats a strict rule or not.

I'm pretty sure you don't get to keep it, even if you ask. There was a checkbox on the application that said something like "I certify that the former license has been surrendered."

You might want to "lose it" when you move to Maryland and just start fresh

You don't get to keep it. I've also lived in states where they let you keep it, and that is nice. But that also was some years ago and I'm not sure if it is common anywhere anymore.

When I moved to MD back in April they took my old license. It's required. I asked as well, but no such luck. Sorry.
