I am single and young professional, have lived in Harford County for one year now (work as an Army Civilian in Aberdeen Proving Proving).

I am planning to buy a small townhouse near work place(Aberdeen Proving Ground). Although I have been in Maryland for one year, but still not familiar with this area. I don't really go out to know the community, most of my time has been spent at home/office.

I currently rent a room in Abingdon, and am thinking to buy a townhouse in Bel Air, or any other suggested places? I am not sure about the housing price here, is it possible to get a townhouse(2-3 bedrooms) within $150000?

Thank you very much!

It is possible to get a nice 2 or 3 BR condo in Bel Air. There was one 2BR townhouse in Bel Air, but it looked like the roof needed replacing, and was sold "as-is". Also, in that price range, there are some townhouses in Abington, Edgewood and Belcamp. They seem to be built in the 1980's and probably need a little work. The condos seem to be newer, and would be less of a maintenance hassle.

Addendum - I looked on realtor.com, and the condos I liked were in English Country Manor in Bel Air and Greenway Farms in Havre de Grace. I really like the historic town of Havre de Grace, but that's just my choice. There is a short-sale townhouse there for $150K, with MLS #HR7722993, and it looked gorgeous to me.

The problems with the 1980's townhouses I saw were that a 25 year-old house will need maintenance like roofs, furnaces, A/C and gutters. Are you prepared for the cash and time outlay? Are you ready to mow lawns and clean gutters?
