Healthcare worker spouse has accepted offer in GB. Now looking for rentals for 1yr before settling into a sf detached house. Both senior citizen empty nesters.
Initial recommendations.
For rentals-- Severn / Odenton./along rte.100
Our priorities: 1.Safety. Nightduty early morning etc etc. 2. Commute. Driving. 10-20mins to GB. 3. Shopping/groc. Etc love Wholefoods but willing to drive 20+mins to get there.

Longterm: SF detached house Ellicott City/ Columbia? Suburb/exurb type.
Interest: golf / tennis /quiet living

Comments / suggestions?

As seniors, and even with one of you working now...
I'm going to assume you are mostly ready for retirement.
On that basis: focus on this stated long term intention.
The commute from EC @US29 to GB (along Rt 100) is only 15 miles.

After working at N Arundel for about a month...
your spouse will be looking to HoCo General which will then be even closer.

My Fiancee commutes from Columbia to Glen Burnie (specifically the court house "downtown"), its takes about 30min door-to-door, and seems to be a pretty consistent commute. She goes against traffic in the morning and evening, so it's a relatively low-stress commute compared to other options in the area.

I think Columbia/Ellicot City would be a good option. It's pretty easy to get around, relatively safe, and no shortage of golf, tennis, etc. Ellicot city might put you a little closer to Baltimore, plus it has some of its own attractions and charm.

MrR,Smitity. Thanks for your responses. Found a condo in Columbia off the mall for 6mos. 25-30mins max on 100. Next an SFH in Co or EC. by summer.
HoCo hospital seemed impressive -- may be after a year or so? Need to research that.

DaveCJ thanks for your enquiry. We have an understanding and very helpful RE agent already -- (never said that before) trying to find a single lvl under 400k. Don't know yet what we can get for that.
