Hello,
I have been lurking around and finally - the first post.

We are thinking of buying a home in the Pleasant Chase community, built by Ryan Homes. This is in Jessup MD, (Howard County), just off Rt. 1.

I have read on this forum that Jessup/Savage is the least favored area of Howard county.

For us, it appears to be a good compromise, commute (to Greenbelt, MD) and price wise. The schools seem to be rated 8/7/8 (E/M/H) on Great Schools.

Any feedback/advice you can offer is much appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

-DT

if you're have a budget of around $400k and want a single family home, you can't beat these new home deals along rte 1 in Howard County. It's cleaning up with the amount of new homes being built

you're saving $50k-100k just b/c of the name but still in the Howard County school district which are great.

we bought in Howard County off hwy 100 and rte 1 and love our new SFH right off I-295 towards DC
our new neighbors are great(financially stable also) and no worries about crime since there's no road outlet entering our new neighborhood. email me (phanjt at yahoo) if you want to know who or where we bought from

I'd say Go for it!

I'm not sure about Ryan Homes, I would definately look into them.

But I would not hesitate to live in Jessup/Elkridge/east HC if the commute is doable and within your price range. You get the same perks - Library, Parks & Rec, School system (note the redstricting happening in east along with the new school on Rt. 1 http://www.hcpss.org/boundarylines/approvedmap111711.pdf (broken link)). I suppose this area is "less favored" due to the business/industrial nature of Rt. 1. However if it doesn't bother you there are plenty of things to like about being in HC.

Thank you for your response and the helpful info on the school redistricting.
I missed to check that during our research, but we are not affected by it.

I really wouldn't look into the Ryan Homes...the quality of the work is not so great. I just saw that one of the condo/townhomes is for sale in Jessup MD and the pictures are great. The school district is also good, just like you mentioned it. Take a look...its up for sale at $335900.00 for 3 bedrooms.
