Hello everyone,

We are young couple relocating from the Northeast to Maryland early this year. We would like to get some input about best places to live, considering the following criteria:

- We are on our mid-twenties. So, some places with entertainment close by would be nice (restaurants, theaters, malls, parks, libraries, coffeeshops)
- One of us will be working in Hunt Valley
- Our rent budget is between $1000 - $1200, if utilities are included even better
- We are looking for a 2 bedroom apt. in a welcoming community
- One of us will be looking for a teaching job
- We don't have children at this moment, so school systems are not our priority
- Someone recommended us to look at Towson... what are your thoughts?
- Is Hunt Valley a decent place to live?
- Preferable no more than 30 minutes away from Hunt Valley, but not in Baltimore.

Thank you!

I think there are some rentals in Cockeysville in that price range. Quite closeby. Towson has a lot of college students (I'll let you decide if that's a pro or con).

Conversely, York Pennsylvania has turned itself around a lot in the last two decades and is a pretty nice small city now. I'm sure there are some good prices on rentals there if you're loooking to save money. There is also a bus that runs from there to Hunt Valley. I think it's about a 30 minute drive.

Hunt Valley itself isn't bad, but maybe a little lacking in the entertainment department. But you're a short drive or light rail ride from Baltimore. The area surrounding Hunt Valley is pretty rural, but is nice if you like the outdoors. The North Central Railroad trail and Gunpowder Falls provides some good outdoor rec opportunities.

As already mentioned, Cockeysville and Towson might also fit the bill. I think there's a light rail station in Cockeysville that could get you to Hunt Valley for work. Towson may be a bit pricier given the college and proximity to Baltimore, but its a nice area.
