Any of you have ideas what would be the best way to commute from mt Airy to DC and how long? My job is right at NW K St and 18th.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this is the best way, but if I lived in Mount Airy, I would drive to the Shady Grove metro stop at the end of the Red Line and take that in to the Farragut North stop. Total trip would be about an hour and 10 minutes one way.

That's a long commute. The might have some commuter bus, I know they have them from Clarksville/Columbia area. If not, then follow the advice to driving to Shady Grove.

Yikes. Your other potential option is to take the MARC from Germantown. But getting down to Germantown (or even Shady Grove) from Mt. Airy can be a chore in itself given that 27 is fairly backed up in the mornings...depending on when you leave.

Here is information on MARC MARC Home Page (http://mta.maryland.gov/services/marc - broken link)

Information on Metrorail is here Metro - Home page

With Metrorail riding from Shady Grove, just as you start coming into downtown D.C, fortunately you can get off at Farragut North Station, just a block from your office. Coming home unfortunately, during afternoon rush the Metro trains will already be packed full with riders at that point going north so that you must stand up for part of the ride.

If alternatively you ride MARC, you will have to transfer at D.C. Union Station to a metro train (which may already be packed full of riders at that point) and ride about 4 more stops to Farragut North station.
