Yeah. You've been there way too long. A house like that here in Greenville would probably be around $90k to $100k on a good day.

It needs too much updating to qualify as beautiful. Gravel driveway with a couple of concrete pavers thrown down to serve as a sidewalk. Itsi-bitsi tiny yard. Neighbors so close you can hear when they pass gas in their own house. No built in microwave. Dated kitchen cabs. Old linoleum flooring. Formica counter tops. It probably needs a roof. 25 year old single kitchen sink. Starter appliances. The washer and dryer are nice. No crown or chair rail. The 2 kids bedrooms are horrible colors. The heat pump probably dates to when the house was built. There's just a ton of stuff and that's just from looking at pictures.

Not really. Most people wouldn't mind 90% of the things you mentioned. Wow, built-in microwave, really, that is an issue? "Starter" appliances get the job done, so what's the issue? Guess it just doesn't take much to please me. Crown and chair rail? HA! That's important? You seem very nit-picky. Wonder what you'd say about my home. Guess I live in a mud pit. Most working class people would love that home...

Easton and Chestertown are 2 historic towns on the Eastern Shore that have somewhat of a cachet and status. But being small, the job market in them is limited.

This thread got interesting.

When I saw $250-300K posted, I thought the OP had made a lot of money in DC to look for a little house in small town Maryland for 250-300K. I was thinking McMansion purchase.

Interesting that the thread sifted two types who see that as acceptable and non-acceptable.

I looked at that Edgewater house listed...and amazed at the high price as well. The entire city of Pittsburgh averages around 110K a house, and that house would certainly be on the under 110K end.

This was a sticker shock to me as well, on rural Maryland in that direction. In Western Maryland, prices seem to be much lower.

It's just the going rate in my area. The house next door to the one I own in Essex was comparable and sold for the same price. I'd imagine it's the same way in that area, Annapolis suburbs, but maybe I'm wrong there. If you do a Google streetview search of that Edgewater home, it has a "For Sale" sign on it and that image was taken in 2009 (I think... looked this afternoon), so maybe it is overpriced but, that home here would be reasonable at that price.... and it's close to the water.

Yeah the wife and I would kill to get a decent home in a decent neighborhood for under 350,000. Sadly such is the way for MD and VA housing.
