Hi! I'm looking to buy a condo maybe a highrise for sale in Chevy Chase. I really like Friendship Heights and Somerset. There were alot condos for sale but I don't know which is better? Like which location is better? Any condo complexs sugggestions? When should I buy?
Also which would you prefer, Friendship Heights, Somerset, Somewhere in Chevy Chase or Bethesda and why?
I have problems finding one because of that reason and I"m on a budget
of 450K I really want a 2bed 2bth with a washer and dryer in it..How many buildings in Friendship Heights, Somerset and maybe Bethesda meet my criteria? because so far I"m finding it pretty imppossible..
Thanks for reading this!

Do you need to be within walking distance of the Metro? That should be a criterion rather than what other people prefer.

If you can't find a place within your budget, maybe your budget is unrealistic. Especially with Somerset-- that's a very small area, with few turnovers. Maybe your budget would work in the Montgomery Mall in Bethesda or Democracy Blvd areas in Rockville.

Frankly, I didn't have problems finding a condo with your criteria. There's one on Sentinal Drive at Sumner Place at $410K with a washer/dryer. The one at Whitley Park for $450K has a W/D. Granted they aren't at Metro stops.

I noticed that the older places in Chevy Chase have community laundry rooms, maybe because they were converted rental units. Maybe if you stick with newer buildings, you will find they were built with the in-apartment laundries, as that is what most people want. Also, extend your search to the North Bethesda or Rockville Zip, 20852. Around Nicholson Lane and Old Georgetown Road, I see several high-rise condos with W/D's. Some may be in walking distance to metro. Obviously a realtor can help you best, when the time comes to buy.

You might want to re-post in Washington, DC Suburbs sub-fourm for better answers.

It's a personal decision, of course. I prefer much Bethesda because it has a walkable downtown with outdoor cafes, movies, antiques shops and tons of good restaurants.

Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights seems "too rich"-- cold and unapproachable. I also would not live in the District because it has no power in Congress, but that's just me. Somerset is just a small incorporated area of Bethesda, and there is low turn-over in apartments.

I suggested looking at North Bethesda (20852) for newer buildings. It is not as walkable but there are nice things to do, like the Aquatic Center, singles nights, etc.

For your budget, try North Bethesda, around grosvenor or White Flint metro stops.
