Hi, considering a move, have an 11 year old and trying to find out what it's like to live in Ocean Pines year round. I know there are a lot of retirees, but there do seem to be kids' activities going on and I know there's a swim team. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My husband and I lived there after college. My grandparents have a house there too. We stayed for about a year - left because the jobs pay so little in the area and we couldn't afford to stay (moved back to Baltimore). We loved living in the Pines year round! There are many families there now, not just retirees anymore (although still a good amount!). We often talk about the possibility of moving back, now that we would be able to secure better paying jobs with our experience. We would walk or bike around the community daily. We especially liked walking our dog on the path near the South Gate pond. It was nice to be so close to the water. We did not have kids at the time, but there seemed to be a good amount of things to do for kids, community events and of course the pools in the community. We also liked being so close to Ocean City if we wanted to do anything more than what Berlin had to offer. It was nice to live in the quiet Pines but be close enough to get some action in OC! I just wish we had more money during the time we lived there so we could have done more (eat out more, boat, etc), if we had, we may have never left!

Oh, this is great to read. I want to move there. I've been going to OC for many years with extended family. Now I am starting to look at retirement places. We always drive past the Pines. I am going to check it out. The only drawback I can see is the 90 bridge traffic on weekends. I also just recently read that there is a lot of crime in Ocean City. I have always felt safe there.
