Hi everyone,

I just moved to Anne Arundel County two months ago. I am a renter and was given two tags to hang inside our cars(we have two). One was recently towed and I had to pay almost $300 to get it out. They said the tag was fake because it had started to peel in the corner and that they wasn't suppose to do that if they were real. I told the management what happened and he said that it sounds bizarre and he don't believe the last tenants would have made fake tags and that the tags are real. He said he will look into it and "see" if he can get me some type of refund and a new permit as it is not my fault it got towed and not his eighter.

This does not make me feel comfortable. It sounds like we can be the ones to take all the blame and pay everthing for something that was given to us. My husband will send him the pictures we took of the tag and the bill we paid(the towing company also sent the pictures to the management of the condos which is a different company, our management is just for the rental we are in). Other than that we are thinking we may have to do small claims. This is something we really don't want to do. We don't want to sour the relationship but if they will actually let us take the fall for this we feel we have no choice. This is alot of money.

I am not sure if there is other legal things we should be doing or just wait it out to see what our mangement company will say.

Advice plz

Good. That's his job to listen and look into things.

Put this all in writing including your expectation for a prompt remedy...
and have someone edit that to delete the soap opera aspect evident above.
(Just the facts ma'am)

Send this letter to the LOCAL manager and a copy to their home office.

We had also contact the Local manager, who just got back to us this morning. She said that the tags are Fake. My husband also sent the manger of the rental all the pictures, receipt and what we expected(without the drama). He wrote us back saying that it looked real and that he nor the owners are liable for what the tow company did and that he will look into it.

We are going to have the Local manager send him a picture of what the Real tag suppose to look like and to let him know it is fake and that he needs to ask the last tenants about it.

You were given the tags. WHO gave you the tags? If they are issued by the management company why didn't you get tags from them?

Let's put it this way. The condo area I am in is managed by X. The owner hired a rental management company(call them Y) to deal with the rental for her/him so we deal with a middle man, we don't ever speak to the owner. The tags I got were the originals from the owner, the last tenants also used them.

Let's put it this way: who handed them to you?

So it seems like it maybe the towing company at fault. But they are being very rude with us and the rental management property.

The owner said she/he will reimburse us. The rental property manager though keep saying that since it was not his fault he wasn't going to pay anything which I don't get why he keep mentioning it to us. We just wanted him to talk to the owner or take it out of our rent. But whichever we should get something back.
