Fantastic. Because Carroll County was really facing a wave of immigration. They truly dodged a bullet there.

Fox News has also been made the official radio station.

If I had to emigrate to another country for a short period of time, I would have no other choice but to learn the native language over there.

Any politician who feels the need to declare English as the official language is a rabblerouser in my book, playing to the Americanus Ignorami in his district and upon this dubious achievement has lost me.

Having been overseas for two years in the service it really enhances one's experience there to learn the language of the host country and I'm sure most immigrants are aware of this.

Too bad the Algonquian-speaking Native Americans missed their chance to make theirs the official language before immigrants came in.

This law is even more important given Obama's new plan to give citizenship to almost every illegal alien in America. While these people will never truly be American in my view if they got amnesty vs earned their citizenship at least they can better assimilate into American culture and society. And I believe local laws do indeed discourage illegal immigration which is important especially in light ot the illegal alien Dream Act surviving. Community colleges which will be forced to accept every illegal alien under the Dream Act will bear the brunt of it and the cost will fall on local students and taxpayers. So with the Dream Act and Obama's amnesty laws like this are even more important than they were before.

And why should we use taxpayer money to pay for translation services for illegals? Most people who can't speak English are illegal and most illegals can't speak English so this really is a law against illegal immigration. I'm just surprised that the Dream Act survived.....mostly due to a few liberal jurisdictions. I live in Baltimore County and have many friends in Carroll and Harford and Anne Arundel and I don't have a single friend, family member (and I come from a LEGAL immigrant family), or even acquiantence who voted in favor of it. The only people I encoutnered who voted for it were when I was campaigning against it in Randallstown at the polls and the Obama type racially driven voters did support it out of some sense of justice against the white man probably.

Then why do we have people who have lived here 10-15 years and still can't speak English?

Your second statement contradicts your first because if the second was true and immigrants are coming here to learn English then there should be no issue with the law, right?

Go to Montgomery County or Highlandtown MANY illegals and even their anchor baby children are not proficient in English. Go to any fast food restaurant in Rockville or Bethesda and try to order something without having to repeat yourself. And good luck asking for things like if they can subsitute the coke for more fries or subsidize the drink for the mashed potatoes. A lot of people who have lived in the DC area their whole life are surprised to travel to other parts of the state and country and find people who can speak English at McDonalds and Taco Bell.

And if you are one of those people hiring illegals to work on your house, wouldn't you want the illegal to at least understand English so he understands how you want things done, even if he IS an illegal and you ARE breaking the law.....I mean if you are going to break the law don't you at least want the work done right?

I doubt if I would hire a non-English speaking immigrant to do work on my house. I have enough trouble having anything done right by a local.
