I am interested in going hiking somewhere within a two hour drive from either Baltimore or Annapolis. Some of the places I have visited include: Patapsco State Park, Harper's Ferry, Great Falls, and probably others that i have forgotten. We want a varied terrain, not too intense but not flat, paved or extremely crowded either. We would also prefer not to be in the car much(not fond of the scenic drive tours) once we arrive at our destination.
Any suggestions out there???

How about Cunningham Falls/Catoctin near Thurmont if you'd like a touch of mountain? I've been there once in the fall, some trails were higher traffic, others were pretty sparse. Waterfall, rock formations, nice views.

Little Bennett Regional park near Clarksburg has a bunch of trails - was completely devoid of other hikers when I went there one September. Mix of woods, hills, and some fields.

Or Calvert Cliffs for varied terrain along the Bay? Bogs, beach, woods, cliffs... I have no idea about the crowds.

Hiking is not safe. I am yet to understand why folks go hiker when they know wild animals are in the forest. Then they get attack by bears or other wild animals and waste tv time by explaing what happened to them like they have no clue wild animals are in the forest.

God knows the nightly news is filled with Maryland hikers who have been attacked by animals! Better to stay inside or the squirrels might get you!!!

Default Saturday's hike

We ended up in the Greenbriar Park area, past Hagerstown, on the App. Trail. There was a side hike that was 2.2 miles each way which ended at the lookout called Annapolis Rock. It was definitely a nice day hike and I would recommend it to others!
