My baby girl was born less than a month ago at Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore city and we live in Howard county. We had to give the SSN and birth certificate staff a name when we were in hospital but she said within the 1st month, we should be able to change the baby's name online for free.

Tried to google around but could not find a solid answer. Can you guys point out a contact or website to do this please? All I could find is the howard county's birth/death record place.

Thanks a lot.

No specific answer - but you can probably call them and find out:

Howard County - Vital Records (Birth and Death Certificates)

Perhaps the hospital person meant changing it with Social Security. However, her birth certificate was the master source, and I'd think you have to change that first. I think the place to call is the State's Division of Vital Records. See the bottom of page about name changes for children: Vital Statistics Administration - birth I think this is the phone number: 410-764-3038

And don't drag your feet on this. IANAL, but after a certain amount of time a name change in Maryland requires the filing of a civil court case and all that goes with it.

I believe you have up to a year before you have to go through the courts to change the name. Do it quickly.
