... my husband doesn't want to.

He's afraid he wouldn't be able to find a decent job and he may be right. He works in IT and we all know that Northern Va has tons of IT jobs. But I hate NoVa. I grew up in Centreville, Md and spent a few years in Grasonville, Md and loved every minute of it. I worked at the Narrows Restaurant for 6 years and we were married at the Kent Manor Inn in Stevensville. The Shore is the only place I consider home. Almost all of my family is still there.

Now we have two children and I'm a stay-at-home mom. I don't want to work but it's just about impossible to live in Fairfax county on one income. We are currently crammed into a townhouse b/c we can't afford anything else. The cost of living here is absurd.

What can I do to convince him!! I feel so homesick sometimes...

I totally understand - I also hate this area. Too congested and expensive. Depending on what his job is, could he telecommute? Or could he change jobs to a place that would let him telecommute? If so, you would have more freedom to choose where you wanted to live. Another possibility is to search for jobs, he could cast his net wide and see if there's anything - apply for jobs even if there is no advertised opening. That would be time-consuming but you never know, you might find something close to where you want to be. I hope this helps.... I sympathize, I really do!

I dunno. May not be a ton of decent-paying IT jobs on the ES. He may want to try one of the universities. If he doesn't dislike the area itself (as some do) remind him that there is a trade off: some loss in income is negated by the lower cost of living.

I'm in love with Annapolis and the Eastern Shore as well. You really can't beat the quality of life there anywhere else in the expansive DC/Baltimore area... NoVA is especially frustrating, with the cost of living and traffic.

Maybe just take him out for a weekend and let him enjoy the experience... if he can walk around Easton, Annapolis, or St. Michaels and still want to live in NoVA, you may want to consider a divorce Only joking obviously, but I think the area does a great job of selling itself if he can find a job. Some people love it so much they actually commute to DC from there, so that's a factor as well...
