We are a group of several couples that get together once or twice a year for old times. We like to go someplace we've never been before. No big cities. Are there any towns along the eastern shores where we could spend a day walking around, take pictures, eat at good restaurants or sightsee? We've seen Annapolis so we're looking for something different.

We'd like to stay within about 2 hours of NOVA.

Thanks

St. Michael's is the obvious choice. It has a small museum, several good restaurants including an outdoor place for crabs, and lots of gift shops.

Sounds nice. Any good spots to walk along the water?

I don't know about the 2 hour time limit, but here are some of my favorite Eastern Shore towns: Easton, St Michael's, Oxford, Chestertown, and Berlin (close to Assateague, but worlds away from Ocean City).

I think the best place to walk might be at the museum grounds or at the marina. Except for a few, small town parks, the rest of the water-front land is privately owned.

If you have time, you might drive south a few miles and take the Belleview to Oxford Ferry. Oxford is another small, scenic town. Or you can drive in the other direction down to Tilghman Island, and stop at Harrison's Chesapeake Inn. I think there is walkable waterfront around there.

Queen's Town on the Shore.

Crisfield in Somerset County.

Havre de Grace and Rock Hall.

Solomon's Island in Calvert County, Sotterly Plantation in Charles County, Historic St. Mary's City in St. Maryy's County (in Southern Maryland on the Western Shore).

Cambridge, in Dorchester County.

This city is in the midst of a serious revitalization, with new businesses opening weekly. Two restaurants there compare favorably with comparable price points in both Baltimore and DC: Bistro Poplar and The High Spot -- look them up.

Historic district is nice and the city marina was recently expanded.

You can take a ride out to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge to see a landscape literally unchanged for hundreds of years. Kayak and cycling opportunities there, too. If you go out there, a visit to Hoopers Island is fun.

Spent 3 months this summer in Rock hall at the BayShore Campground. Campground was super, people were great, made some good friends.
Fell in love with Rock Hall and surrounding areas. Bay Wolf is my favorite tavern/restaurant. Owners and staff are great and made me feel like a local.
Good menue at harbor shack.
Chester River Seafoods , best for take out seafood.
Will be back next year god willing. Billy graham

How about heading west instead, Brunswick, Frederick, C&O Canal, Cunningham Falls?
