I believe I have settled in on Howard County for a potential move to Maryland. Any advice on homebuilders and subdivisions in Howard County.

I used Patriot Homes to build a house in Columbia awhile back. Although I'm not sure if they are still around (They were owned by Williamsburg Homes).

I currently live in a Catonsville Home. They are local, and I like their layouts.

Aside from that, the only other builders I've experienced is N/V and Toll Brothers.
Our NV home was very nice.. but ended up finding a lot of bad materials and cutting corners when we decided to sell (as discovered by the buyers inspectors). Nothing major (i.e. using tape instead of clamps for dryer vents, not sealing tubs properly etc.), but it really gave us a bad taste for N/V.

I like Toll bro. But they are national... not sure if you were looking that way.

Do you have your own lot and need a builder to build the house or are you looking to move into a development that's already in progress and being built out by one or more builders?

Would not recommend Toll unless you want to pay quite a lot for an ordinary house with insultingly low-end finishing materials and craftmanship. Seriously, I think you'll be disappointed, as we are.

Every house will have it's problems, no matter what builder. My in laws have an NV home that they had built, and they are very pleased.
Cider Mill (off Landing Rd in Ellicott City) is very nice- we have friends currently building there, and the company I work for does the excavating. The builder is K. Hovnanian.

Well, since they are pretty large single family homes, the values have gone down just like everywhere- but the cost is a lot lower to build. I believe they are starting at around $100,000 less than they were when the development was new, which was in 06 (or at least that's when our contract started there, so I'm sure that's when they began building). It's a really nice neighborhood, we've actually gone and looked at the models and driven through just for kicks.

Default I love my new home built by Trinity Homes.

I just bought a new house in Ellicott City that Trinity Homes built for me. They did a hell of a job and at a good price. It took them a month longer then they originally told me but the quality is there. I am pretty sure their site is Trinity Homes - Howard County Home Builders - New Homes for Sale Ellicott City, Maryland.
