The US News released their 2014 best high schools just now, and it will leave you in complete shock.

Search Maryland High Schools | US News

- None of the Anne Arundel County High Schools got ranked this year. Not Severna Park, Not Arundel, Not Broadneck, not Chesapeake, and not South River, (Even though their test scores were amazing as usual).

- Even Winston Churchill High School (ranked #1 in MD last year) was not ranked at all this year. Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walter Johnson were not either.

- A bunch of high schools that normally score low in rankings scored among the best this year, despite their low test scores.

- Pretty much all of the top 20 high schools are in Montgomery and Howard Counties.

To me, these rankings kind of seem like garbage...Not to mention they used outdated data from the 2011-2012 school year and some of the test scores are wrong.

Interesting ratings. Surprised to see almost every Washington County high school ranked in the state top 40 and none in Frederick County? Where's Middletown and Urbana?

Go Vikings!

Seriously though - I agree with Cindy that these rankings needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I wouldn't say they are garbage, but one does need to understand the metrics used and what it actually says about the school. In the end though, you're still talking about people. Just because Whitman is #1 on paper, that doesn't mean it will be a better school for every kid out there.
