I thought Annapolis was a nice city. I drove into Annapolis via 50-665 and was shocked at what I saw. Speed limit signs with graffiti, police cars everywhere (literally) and generally run down areas.

Is this the norm for the area, or did Annapolis go downhill?

I live here and have not seen anything like that. The city is still beautiful and safe. Must have been a bad day for that area.

Annapolis is a city where you can be in a million dollar neighborhood, drive 2 blocks and be in a war zone. Annapolis has some very rough areas, typically in the Section 8 housing. (Clay St, some areas off of Forest Drive etc)

It is a city that almost does not have a middle class. You either have a lot of money or you don't. Its a beautiful city though, lots of history, and great people.

Annapolis like most towns has its bad and good... Actually it was just voted in the top 10 best towns in America...It is a very scenic place and great place to eat and shop ... You must have gone thru the outer area

Speaking of good paces to eat. Try Grumps over in the Hillsmere area. They have fabulous food, good breakfasts and Monday night is build a burger night.

I currently live in Upper Marlboro, MD & I'm in the process of purchasing a home.

Annapolis is one of my area's of choice because I am sick & tired of PG County.
PG County is OK but it could be much better if they could cut down the section 8 riff-raff population, meaning the mixture of hard working class people like myself & lazy residents who don't care about the property as long as they're only paying 20% of their rent.

I'm not trying to doscriminate against section 8, but some of those recipients can be very difficult neighbors.

I want to know if I should follow my heart & move to Annapolis, MD because I used to think this was a nice, beautiful, & safe area.

Can someone offer me advice because I'm hearing the opposit on this thread?

Annapolis is a great place to live. We have never had any problems in our neighborhood, and they people we know who live here will tell you the same. It is getting crowded but that is because everyone wants to live here.

Keep believing that "best town" stuff.

This photo was taken across the street from the liquor stores where the hookers and crack-heads walk the street:

I have never had any problems with Annapolis. I actually think it is one of the nicest little cities I have ever been in. I'm not sure where you are seeing all this graffiti?
