Spending summers in OC back in the 90s, I remember a head shop down near Division St called 'Chat Street'. Anybody remember that spot. They were housed in a blacked-out old building that looked like it wanted to be a haunted house.

I ran a Google search that indicated Chat may have moved and turned into a skate shop? But the 90s version was more of head shop/Hot Topic hybrid.. underground comics, Doc Martens, etc.
If you know which street it was on, and the fate of their old building (or any other memories).. please advise. I'm feelin' nostalgic for the place; I was in there on the regular back in '97.

Remembering the 'Texas Weiner Man' too, down near Division.. around 1999. 24 hour greasy spoon.

Chat Street was THE spot. I always felt like I was in some sort of trouble just by entering that store because of how anti-everything the design of the store was. I fondly remember the wall of stickers/decals, etc. at the entrance to their store. I'm kicking myself for not having bought a Chat St t-shirt from that Golden time in O.C.

The original Chat Street was in Fells Point. We knew the owner well, at one point, many moons ago. We lost touch with him, and I always wondered how he was doing. When my father last saw him, he said they'd taken his legs (diabetes, I think ). I think his sister was the one that oversaw the OC location. If anyone learns anything, please post.

As for O.C., I remember working at a similar store somewhere beneath 15th street, just a few stores off the boardwalk on the right-hand side that sold Doc Martens, leather jackets, band shirts, etc. Does anyone remember the name of that place? The owner never paid me so I stopped going and got a job, the best job ever, somewhere else: Pool girl at the Princesse Royale! I literally got paid to hand out towels, and walk on the beach to collect them. Honestly, getting paid to walk on the beach?!! Yes, please!!! I won't say how old I am now, but that was still the best gig of my life. lol It didn't pay like my office jobs, but I had the best view and "desk" in the state.

I still have some Chat St stickers with the cartoon drawing of a dude. Good friend of mine worked there in late 80's.

This article is a decade old, but was feeling nostalgic today..
Article talks about the history (& demolition) of the old Driftwood Apts. Driftwood was the spot for college kids (et al) working summers back in the 9os. The Oasis was another (unmentioned) apartment complex across the street, for seasonal employees, working & partying all summer. Good times.

In the 9os, there were movie theaters @ White Marlin Mall, right before you enter in to the south end of OC.
It was cool if you lived on the south end of town, having a theater close by. I saw (& slept thru) parts of Phantom Menace there circa 1999.. Apparently the movies folded a decade ago, & the space was converted in to a Michael's (arts & crafts).
Seems like there was a music/record shop in that same strip mall; or somewhere right before you crossed the south end bridge in to OC. Anyone remember the CD shop (?)
