Just curious because I'd heard Annapolis and surrounding suburbs are conservative. Is that true? How are liberals viewed in the area?

We visited Annapolis a few weeks ago for the first time and loved it. It's gorgeous, quaint, charming, and the water everywhere is heavenly.

Annapolis is pretty liberal all over. Neighboring condo still has her Obama sign up in the window. We took ours down but had it up all throughout the election as did others in our area. You have some conservative areas here but I have no idea where they are. Most of our Maryland friends live here in town in various areas and they are all well liked professionals with liberal views.

Once you get to Anne Arundel County and move south into Southern MD liberal is a relative term. Anne Arundel County itself has a fairly evenly divided County Council with a Republican County Executive. Many Democratic elected officials are considered conservative, in some cases more so than any Republican.

What about the suburban areas, like Severna Park and Davidsonville?

I have a liberal friend who lives in Severna Park, and she claims the area is very conservative. She wants to move into Annapolis, though.

I'd heard the presence of the Naval Academy influenced the Annapolis area into a more conservative bent. I don't know why this would be so, but that's what I heard.

7th, that's what I was wondering. I've got friends on both sides of the aisle.

Just don't go south of MD 214 and you'll be alright. That's pretty much the new "Mason Dixon" line between the North and the South.

It matters because I once made the mistake of moving into a picturesque but very conservative area. I'm very liberal, and I had to keep my mouth shut whenever politics came up, which was fairly often. I love a balance of points of view, but I don't ever again want to live in a place where I am in the tiniest minority. I moved away from that conservative area as soon as I could, but it took a few years, and I was not happy there. Annapolis is one place I may move, and I want to make sure I'm not making the same mistake again.
