I much prefer Berlin over being in town (OC) itself. Though I love OC, and have called it home since 1991, I rarely go across that bridge in the summer with the exception of an occasional late night shift to any of the downtown bars.

Yes, Berlin is a large area but nowhere is more then 15 or so minutes from the beach. I live in Ocean Pines which even though is basically it's own town but considered Berlin, it is about 10 minutes from downtown Berlin and 10 minutes from downtown Ocean City. Downtown Berlin is 10 to 15 minutes from the beach. There are parts of Berlin that are right by West O and practically part of Ocean City as well so it is a large area. I go to and from West O every day, sometimes several times and traffic isn't usually an issue. Yes, it can get backed up on Friday's and Saturdays but if you go before 11AM you'll be fine. In your situation, I'd say that being in Ocean City proper, you'll have constant traffic in season but being in Berlin, though it can be heavy mid day heading into town, there are plenty of times that there isn't much at all. I am rarely inconvenienced if I have to leave the marina to go get something from any of the places on rt 50 such as West Marine, Walmart or Home Depot!

One thing to think about is that your friend is going to work in Salisbury. If you live in OC he/she will have OC in town traffic to deal with at least once a day and probably twice (unless late night shifts) and that can be a mess. Uptown would really be a pain. The only time I see those condos are during the off season or when running in from a day's fishing!

As far as restaurants, West O has plenty of quality restaurants and bars with good clientele. (ie good tips). Ocean City proper has the busier night clubs as well as some good restaurants. Plenty of that line of work in both areas!

Now one thing to consider with Berlin is what part are you going to be in. Personally, i'd take a trip down before paying a deposit if you are unfamiliar with the place. Though overall it is a nice and safe area I'd try to avoid the area right on 113 just south of the Hospital.

I'd also be leery of sending money to somebody on Craigslist without meeting them. Yes, when I rented I never met my landlords but I always went through an agent. If/when I rent again I would do the same as I'd find it hard to send a check to somebody I'd never met for a place I didn't personally look at either and I am a very trusting individual!

Where you'll see people carrying shotguns and dressed in camouflage?

Where tractors will sometimes slow traffic down and dust and smells from farming are a regular occurrence?
This.... and Sean is right on the money.. Welcome to Berlin.

Default my home town of Berlin

Berlin is my home town and I plan to move back in a few years when i retire. i currently live in Frederick, or some call it Fredneck. i was hoping to open a flea market on my property out in the country, but concerned that there will not be enough people interested in renting a booth due to the small population in the area. I know there are several antique stores in the town of Berlin as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
