I hear that occasionally in this debate.. I think there's a misunderstanding about the Missouri Line. It was designed for use west of the Mississippi, it's basically meaningless in distinguishing eastern standards.

To theoretically extend the Missouri Line east of it's original intent/application, would also exclude VA & KY from the South. That's sacrilege.. peace.
The Mason and Dixon survey resolved a border dispute. Nothing more.

In fact, the only people who have an issue with it are people from MD/DC because they don’t want to be affiliated with the south. That’s also the reason why MD/DC people are the only ones constantly discussing the north and south. People from Delaware, though technically classified south by the census, don’t seem to care much or make a big deal about it, whereas MD/DC people are obsessed by it and go out of their way to prove they aren’t part of the south.

*I grew up in MD, and have always considered it a Southern state with lots of northern influences (which makes sense given that it’s a border state). Mid-atlantic is the best designation for MD/DC IMO.
I'm not from DC, Maryland, or Delaware.

^^^^^Nice article(s). Very interesting and brings a sense of perspective. Some of these articles are merely 50 years old...my mom is 53 go figure. Yet we seem to be so convinced XYZ isn't/is XYZ ....welp there you have it. 50 years of progress doesn't erase over 200+ years of ingrained truth
