Gaithersburg isnt the sort of place to go without a job lined up in advance.
Nor is most of MoCo or the state as a whole really.
The median household income is $115,826.

The income per capita income is $52,955 andtwo bedroom apartment rents average $1768.
That level of rent requires more than the cited $52000 to be affordable.

Wow G-burg and Cambridge are about as opposite as you can get. One is a burb, the other a small town on the isolated eastern shore with a lot of run down areas. If you are thinking out there Easton would probably be a better choice.

There are plenty of safe areas in Maryland, pretty much anywhere outside the Baltimore/D.C. Metro areas. Of course every town will have desirable and less desireable pockets. But MD is not Cheap. Consider western MD (Frederick, Thurmond, Hagerstown) if you like smaller town feel, or Carroll or Harford counties if you're looking for decent public schools. Eastern shore, with exception of resort towns and Annapolis are more "southern" and farm oriented. The state is very diverse depending on location. Gaithersburg is not cheap but schools are decent.

I didn't know they had to be out of the Metros to be safe. I live in Baltimore County and am completely safe.

Poster never said all of Baltimore was unsafe, but obviously all big cities have areas that are.
