What's it like? Do breezes moderate the hot and cold?

Are all the communities similar?

Is it good for swimming?

Are there lots of mosquitoes?

Yes. Winter winds off the water are cold.

No.

Usually. The jelly fish will start coming in over the next few days. Typically they're worse on the eastern side due to the water being saltier there. After a heavy rain the various County Health Departments will occasionally issue swimming advisories because of the runoff.

Yes, if you're near marshes. Most waterfront Counties have a mosquito spraying program through the Maryland State Department of Agriculture.

Lusby, Baltimore, North East, St. Michael's and Crisfield are just a few communities that are located on the Bay. I guess you could say they are all inhabited by Marylanders (not necessarily by choice I hear)

Hit a used book store for a copy of "Chesapeake" by James Michener
A few more things have happened since the book was written but not all that much.

It usually moderates kind of nicely down near Berlin MD and parts around the bay near there. On another subject, if you're into ghosts and ghost hunting, try out all of the Victorian B&B's on the Eastern Shore say from Easton to Berlin , the Atlantic Hotel being one I had an experience in with a Casper. Also, the B&B's in Bethany and Rehoboth beach

I'll disagree with you on the Mosquitos. For anyone NOT from around Maryland the mosquitos would be considered bad just about everywhere. And I'm glad you still have the State doing mosquito control down there, They canceled it due to 'staffing issues' then 'budget issues' up here in Frederick County several years ago. And especially this year the mosquitos are very bad. The Storm water management area haven't really dried out at all and the mosquitos and gnats are horrible.

Budget issues? God, it's one of the cheapest State programs there is for the positives it produces.

It has changed over the years. The spraying used to be hard scheduled, we were Sunday and Thursday evenings, but now they do a bite survey and then spray.

It is sort of funny when they spray. Individuals can opt out of having the sprayer operating when the truck goes by their house so we have a couple streets where the sprayer's on, then off, then on for a couple houses, then off again.

We also will have aerial spraying of the marshes occasionally, usually a couple times a summer. That's a different program.

Since we're a municipality we tag onto the County program. I don't feel like looking but I think our cost is around $2000 or so this year, about a buck per resident.

Besides Easton, none of these areas are near the bay.

I live almost on the Severn, good beaches etc ... close to Annapolis, boating , fishing, great places to eat at. One thing though, get out your check book, because any place like that will be expensive, house and tax wise.
