It was the whole Baltimore vs Washington thing and the false perception from the people of Baltimore that DC looked down at them. Never really understood that, I grew up in DC and never felt that way about Baltimore and neither did anyone I knew. The hostility was definitely a one way street, Baltimore always had a chip on their shoulder regarding DC, DC never felt that way about Baltimore which is why they adopted the Birds without reservations.

And this is why I am struggling so hard to adopt the Ravens. I haven't forgotten any of this.
Yeah, like at the time there was any chance someone in Baltimore could ever get a season ticket to see the Redskins play. How long was the waitlist for season tickets? Took many years from what I remember. Not that many wanted to when they found out the Redskins owner was instrumental in Baltimore’s attempts to get an expansion team shot down.

Buying season tickets is not a requirement to be a fan of a team. I never had them, hardly ever went to a game. But I rooted for the team and purchased their gear.

Yes the Redskins fought to keep football out of Baltimore, just as the O's fought against Washington getting baseball as well. That was just businesses to try to retain market share in both instances. The only difference in the 2 situations is the fans in DC didn't let that stop them from adopting the Birds, they don't have this anti-Baltimore thing the way Baltimore feels about Washington.

I'd say the Eastern shore is easily Ravens territory.

Just a side note but it has come to light that the Redskins were fudging their "waiting ticket list" claims by a whole boat load.

I thought it was widely known that Cooke used to manipulate the waiting list just to show the power he had.

This is true. I was telling some Ravens fans yesterday that when the Redskins would lose playoff chances (which is often, lol), people in DC would rally around the Ravens or maybe Philly because they were the closest team(s) in our area. They looked at me like I had three heads and couldn't understand what I was saying, lol. I don't think they believed me. Ravens fans NEVER supported the Redskins if they ever got to the playoffs (which like I said is rare) or had a good season.

I never understood the hostility either. I realize EBW spoke of moving the Orioles to DC, but that was in response to low attendance, not some grass roots campaign in DC to take their team (ours too) away. Nobody in DC was clamoring to move the Os to RFK. And EBW never did.

And I never heard anyone in DC disparage Baltimore. We had our own issues (Barry, crime, etc) and were not about to dump on Charm City. Most people in DC like going to Baltimore.

Don't jump ship for the Ravens. I root for the Nats but find it impossible to jettison the Orioles. The result is a textbook example of bipolar, divided loyalty that would shock an Italian Prime Minister.

When i was living on the ES, I had DirecTV. The only local stations they would allow me to watch were from Baltimore. Now that we are living on the western shore we have FIOS and have both sets of stations. I wonder if the level of cross support has more to do with what is available to watch on TV, without having to pay an exorbitant amount for NFL ticket. I watch both teams when possible, but since I live closer to Baltimore, I watch the Ravens if they are both on at the same time. I will switch back and forth during time outs and half time, if they are not happening at the same time.

I was born and raised in the Canton, Ohio area so I like football, and the Browns connection of the Ravens helped me to support the Ravens right away.

likewise, I am now rooting for the Eagles. I used to live, for a few years, a little down the road from Foxboro, MA, but, while I respect what the team has done, I can't seem to root for the Patriots. I've lived in Denver and in the Miami area, so I will root for those teams, at least when they aren't playing against one of out local teams. I will even root for other AFC North teams as long as their winning won't affect on the Raven's chances to advance to the playoffs. I guess that has to do with the location of where I grew up.

I suspect it does. There is little to no animosity here at the edge of the Bal/Was media markets between the two fan bases. I still root for the Skins as a secondary team, and can't bring myself to really 'hate' the Steelers as a Ravens fan should because I grew up watching them on TV most weekends as well.

There are some people that do "hate" one or more of the three regional teams (especially long time Steelers fans who always hated the Browns/Ravens,) but out here it definitely isn't a cultural thing or identity battle between Baltimore and D.C. loyalties
