Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of finding a new job and I have what looks to be a good lead for one located in the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. While I'm waiting to see what happens with that I'm trying to get an idea of what I may be getting myself into as far as commute and travel goes.

More info:

Currently my girlfriend of several years is going to school in Philadelphia (Camden, NJ), and I also have quite a bit of family/friends in that area.

I would like to find a good mid-way point that would give me relatively easy access to both Aberdeen and Philly, if one exists. I don't mind having a commute in the 1-hour range, especially if trains are involved. Where I live now I drive 45 min as it is.

I-95, Amtrak, trains, boats, whatever...its all on the table for the moment.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about if this would even be feasible, and maybe some good locations to check out?

Thanks in advance!

Try looking in Delaware - either Newark, or in between Newark and Wilmington. I knew several people who commuted from Delaware to APG. The drive was a little long, but overall not bad. You could take Route 40 or I-95 down to Aberdeen. There are Amtrak stops in Aberdeen, Wilmington, and Philadelphia.

Amtrack stops in Aberdeen, under 2 miles from the gate. However, there is no easy way to get from the station to a job on APG. Its mostly a stop for commuters from Aberdeen to Baltimore. If you can find someone in your office working the same time and willing to pick you up from the station each day, that might work

Or maybe you can find out if the station have zip car.

Zip car is car rental program. You can rent the car for $50.00 dollars a day with gas included at any metro station. WHen you are done with the car you drop it off at any Metro station to get pick up.

Try giving zip car a call.
