Sorry if this is a duplication- I couldn't find one, but I am coming to work in Hunt Valley and looking for somewhere nice and not too expensive to live. I am coming from Orange County California so I guess(maybe) that it should appear to be cheaper to me anyway but I'm hoping for a small house, with 2-3 bedrooms or an open plan warehouse type high rise loft, and in a fairly quiet and picturesque, but not in the middle of nowhere in the case of the house, or somewhere with a safe feel for the loft! My wife is of Korean descent so if there is somewhere with a Korean community nearby so much the better, but this is not essential. I'd like to be able to have a lots to do, but feel safe in the place I live.
We are happy to commute to Hunt Valley from outside Maryland if there is somewhere with better pricing nearby outside, but I don't really want to spend a long time in the car every day.

I'd really appreciate thoughts on this, as I am currently not too far out from making the move - but I am not really sure where would be good to start looking!

You may want to check out the areas of Cockeysville, Lutherville, and Timonium. Compared to Orange County, these are nice areas that are pretty close to Hunt Valley and would probably have something you are looking for. By Baltimore standards these areas could be viewed as expensive but I don't know how you'd view them coming from Orange County. Like I said these are nice areas and are very close to Hunt Valley.

The center of Baltimore's Korean community is the Catonsville/Ellicott City area. Unfortunately these are on the other side of the region from Hunt Valley. However, there is a Korean Church in Lutherville so there may be something of a Korean-American community in these areas.

I took a look at these areas, and moving to any of them would pretty much negate any cost of living advantage a move would give to me. They are as expensive, shockingly - as where I am in Orange County it seems. I have decided I am probably better to commute from York, PA from other feedback I have received particularly relating to high crime levels in the Baltimore area, which is something I have also seen a lot on these boards. Thank you all for the information - it is greatly appreciated.
