My husband is working near BWI airport and I will be moving up to join him in the next few months. We have no kids and we are not sure where I'll be working yet. Could be in the city (DC) or as far as Vienna, so we'd like to stay near a metro. We are looking to rent a townhome. We are familiar with the areas of Russett, Piney Orchard, and Seven Oaks. Piney Orchard and Seven Oaks seem to run a little bit cheaper on rent, but if memory serves us correctly there really isn't much in Odenton to do (shopping, dining etc). Although, it doesn't seem like a far drive to the Laurel area where shopping and dining abound. There are also marta stations in Laurel as well as Odenton.

Any advice on one of these three neighborhoods verus the others. Any other neighborhoods that we should look into? Schools aren't an issue, but I would like to live in a safe area.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

You may want to look into the Elkridge and Ellicott City area. It has lots of shopping and eating, better schools than you'll get in Severn, and old towne Ellicott City is so charming. You're near parks and only minutes from Baltimore.

Out of the areas you have mentioned, I would recommend Piney Orchard. The schools are good and there's shopping at The Village of Waugh Chapel which is a newish shopping center on Route 3--just down Waugh Chapel Road from Piney Orchard. Another option might be Crofton--easy commute to D.C.

Piney Orchard tends to run very high. Good areas to check near BWI that are less expensive are also Pasadena, and some areas of Glen Burnie. Linthicum is very nice, also. Don't miss checking out those areas!

I live in Pasadena and it is a nice town with shopping in Glen Burnie and a little in Severna Park. Parts of Glen Burnie is okay and since you have no kids it could be an option as the schools there aren't very good.
