This quote is most often heard from people who know little about West Baltimore. The kind of people who roll up there windows and lock their doors when they leave the parking garage at the inner harbor

Now Jake. You have a point. Edgewood does have some decent working class areas. However, Edgewood has a lot of problems and is the worst spot in Harford County. The Little West Baltimore comment is unfortunately accurate, in terms of the violence & narcotics trafficking that has plagued Edgewood for the last 6 or so years. My intention was not to upset you or anyone else with this comment. Perhaps we can all learn something if you share your views on the current status of E Wood?

Pitch, please explain what is "funny" about these departments not reporting crime stats. Do you think they are hiding something deliberately?
RG, it is obvious that you have your mind made up about Edgewood with the other comments you have laid down in this forum. Yes, I absolutely think that the other PDs are not reporting their stats. It's been common practice in this state for years. That is what I consider "funny." Of course, that's my opinion. And it doesn't take a large staff to enter some crime data into a database. Only one person with limited computer skills is needed. The officers are all trained to use computers.

"Edgewood is no worse than any other area." Edgewood has the highest crime rate in Harford County. Although Pitch is absolutely correct in that there are gang members throughout Harford County, the so called "priviledged" people he refers to are not naive to the situation. Furthermore, not all northern Harford County residents are so "priviledged." Luckily, most of these folks cooperate with police about criminal matters, which helps keep gang activity lower outside of E Wood. It is an unfortunate fact for the good folks of E Wood that the largest concentration of gang members and gang activity in Harford County is in E Wood.

RG is way off base here. I haven't seen anything to suggest that Edgewood has the highest crime rate in the county. Maybe murder rate, but not crime rate. Give us stats and or hard figures because you haven't substantiated nothing more here than a deep rooted hatred or at least an extreme dislike for Edgewood.

Pitch is correct that illegal drugs are available all over the county. I have also heard that Fallston H.S. (excellent academics) does have a big drug problem. Does anyone else have info to support this? If this is true, it should be more publicized in order to enlist the support of parents to stop it.

I hope no one takes the negative comments about E Wood so personally. Pitch, it is apparent that you live in a nicer section there, and you have every right to protect your real estate investment by disputing what people say. Most folks on this forum knows there are nice parts of E Wood, and that some great people live there. The ugly reality of the situation is that E Wood does have more bad areas with more crime than anywhere else in Harford County. E Wood is becoming known as the "Little West Baltimore" of Harford County regardless of whether anyone likes it or not.

This statement is absurd. I've driven through most of the county and most of Baltimore City and do not see where you can make a comparison of Edgewood and West Baltimore. It is also obvious that you have never been to Aberdeen, if you think Edgewood has more bad areas than anywhere else in Harford County. Again, you have shown that you have some personal reason for disliking Edgewood, putting down our local business members with comments about markets and eateries. It is comments like this that get published and sent to potential BRAC relocators that will hurt the Edgewood/Joppatowne real estate market when the BRAC starts to roll into town.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about Edgewood, including Pitch and me. If I was the only one who disliked E Wood, it would be as simple as Pitch claims. Take a good look, this forum is filled with numerous negative comments about E Wood for a variety of reasons - lots of violent crime, many slum/ghetto neighborhoods such as Harford Square & Meadowood, an impressive collection of gang members all too eager to roam the streets and greet you, sloppy looking strip malls, etc... Nobody should cry foul just because someone else does not find E Wood to be a wonderful place to live. For those worried about influencing the BRAC personnel: The majority of BRAC personnel that will be reassigned to APG are highly trained, intelligent scientists and other specialists. These are the type of folks who will research their potential new neighborhoods. If there is **** in E Wood, these folks will smell it! If you are a resident or business owner in E Wood, take some postive action to clean up E Wood instead of crying about comments in this forum. Best of luck in your efforts!

It's an exaggeration to compare west Baltimore to Edgewood, but I wouldn't want to live in Edgewood under any circumstances.

we just relocated from a different part of the state and we now live in Edgewood, MD and we think it is a good place to live and we also believe if you do unto others as you would have them do unto you and pray, pray, pray and show love and respect to all and not based on their color or status or anything else. no one needs someone running from them. they need to know we love and care about them.

I live in edgewood on Perry, have so for about 4 yrs now. When I purchased my home this was a very nice area! There has been some "changes" lately but for the most part. IN edgewood meadows, most of my neighbors are elderly people who take care of their homes and yards. They are very friendly and look out for the youngsters. No matter who you are. The young families that are here do the same. There are a mixture of people and people walk (for exercise and recreation) all times of the day. The homes closer to Flying Point Park are nice but as you all KNOW there will always be issues to consider. Such as summertime vandalism from bored kids, the occasional garage breakin - or skater punks. I guarantee you can go to ANY neighborhood and find this type of crime. I have never walked my kids in my sub division and smelled Marijuana or had to shield them from overt profanity pouring out of someone's home. I have in your "coveted" Bel Air. There is good and bad in all areas. You know that you could buy those 1/2 million dollar homes in PG, AA, and Howard counties and find yourself stepping over dead bodies as you leave for work because the crime was so bad. It didnt change the fact that those were "good" neighbordhoods. I think edgewood does get a bad rep for the most part.
