Your two oldest would be in elementary school based on age. In the D.C. area pre-schools tend to start at age 2 - 2.5 with some starting younger and some starting older. Maryland does not have mandatory public pre-k so in Montgomery County preschools are private. Curricula in the U.S. are developed at the State and local levels. For Maryland, I would google the County School district website ( i.e. Montgomery County Public Schools ). You can find state education standards by googling the Maryland State Department of Education. You might also contact the British Embassy, since it is here in DC. They might have an information packet on local schools and how their curricula compare to the British system. There are also at least 2 private schools in DC that actually follow a British curriculum.

Smile schools

I believe in an earlier forum someone posted the site to greatschools.net which you can research specific counties and schools to get more metrics on what is important to you in the places you're looking to relocate to.

I'm not as familiar with Montgomery County as in your other responses, but I can certainly vouch for Calvert and Carroll counties for their educational systems both public and private from the elementary up through the highschool levels.

I think you'll be happy in either of those counties when you hop across the "pond".

Good luck on your move.
