Hi. I'm moving from Ventura County California to Maryland for a job in a few weeks. The job will be at Fort Meade, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of rooms to rent right around there, although there are lots in College Park.

Is that 17 miles on 295 really a bad commute, or should I really try to find closer? Google Maps lists the drive as 25 minutes (up to 35 in traffic). I imagine the northbound wouldn't be too busy in the morning rush hour, would it? Probably more people coming into DC.

How about for the winter driving conditions on the route?

Thanks!

It might not be that bad going to work, since you are going the opposite of the major traffic, but BW parkway (295) can be slow if something happens (accident, bad weather) since it is only 2 lanes for the whole stretch.

If you're working at Ft Meade, try checking for rentals in Odenton (which is off Rt 32 farther east) or Laurel which is right next door to Ft Meade on Rt 198.

the BW Parkway often gets very backed up because it is so narrow. It's otherwise a pretty drive, but with too much traffic and only 2 lanes....
